Core Strategies

Restoring Ecosystems

We restore degraded ecosystems through nature-based solutions that bring back biodiversity, soil, and water systems. This strategy uses regenerative practices, such as reseeding native vegetation without irrigation, applying rain catchment and retention methods, and restoring and protecting soil health. The goal is to bring degraded landscapes back to life so they can continue to support people, plants, and animals for generations to come. These efforts provide direct benefits to communities in Southern Arizona.

Cultivating Resilient, Self-Sustaining Communities

Under this strategy, we work together with communities to enhance resilience by promoting local initiatives like kitchen gardens, sustainable water use, and income-generating activities, and community fresh market exchange. These efforts are guided by permaculture principles, which focus on working with nature to develop self-sustaining systems. The goal is to foster self-sufficiency, improve nutrition, and reduce vulnerability to climate and economic shocks, while getting the community more involved in sustainable initiatives. These initiatives are tailored to the specific needs of communities in Southern Arizona.

Inspiring Action Through Learning and Advocacy

We promote awareness, strengthen knowledge, and foster a culture of restoration and resilience in collaboration with our partners and dedicated volunteers. This strategy encourages an understanding of ecological restoration, sustainable practices, climate resilience, and biodiversity conservation. The goal is to empower individuals, communities, and practitioners to engage in impactful actions for both people and the planet. We do this by facilitating knowledge exchange, shared learning experiences, hands-on training, and advocacy. SkyHarvest headquarters will serve as a central hub for information, resources, and collaboration. These efforts reach from schools and the general public to key stakeholders and practitioners at all levels.

Innovating Sustainable Products for Restoration, Food Production, and Resiliency of Communities

We plan to design and test sustainable products that support ecosystem restoration, enhance food production, and build community resilience. Products like GroBox will act as practical tools to support food security in arid environments while contributing to the restoration of local ecosystems and improving resource efficiency. The goal is to develop scalable and innovative solutions that generate income to fund our programs and empower communities to restore their natural environments, grow food sustainably, and become self-sufficient, all while creating job opportunities for community members.

Strategic Umbrella: Building Resilience and SustainabilitY

We integrate both mitigation and adaptation strategies into all our initiatives to minimize environmental impacts and enhance resilience. We contribute to this by restoring ecosystems, promoting low-carbon solutions, and implementing carbon offsetting within our operations and those of our key partners. Additionally, we support communities to strengthen their resilience against extreme weather events, such as droughts. This strategy guides our work toward ensuring a more sustainable and resilient future for both people and the environment.
