Thank you for your generousdonation to SkyHarvest

You are funding the project to reforest Bear Springs, as well as making it possible to begin new ecological restoration projects in the area. Your donation is truly appreciated as every dollar is intentionally spent to benefit the land as well as the community of animals and people who share it.

We have started making seed balls with over thirty species of shrub, flower, and grass seed to see which ones favor the environment most.

A seed ball is made by coating seeds in a mixture of clay, compost, and diatomaceous earth bonded together into pellet form. As we get into the month of May, we will have 1500 seed balls made, planted into their basins, and documented, so we plan to track the progress of our plants. As an added benefit for the soil, three swales have been built at the bottom of erosion lines in the demonstration garden to catch rainwater and retain it in the soil.

Rio, Daniel, and Jack are shown in the picture with buckets full of our biochar mixture to spread into the soil.

Biochar is a charcoal-like substance infused with organic matter, otherwise known as biomass. The desert environment where Bear Springs is located can be unforgiving, so we use this biochar to trap moisture in the soil giving the trees an extra boost of nutrients and allowing their roots to grow hardy and deep.

What’s coming in the future?!

As we continue to expand the capacities of SkyHarvest, we are building a strong and sustainable ecosystem with the following proposals; ‍- Continue making seed balls and water catchment basins. We will have a volunteer session at Diamond Mountain Retreat Center from May 29th to June 5th. - Aid the local town of Bowie, Arizona by building a model for sustainable housing, which will include composting toilets and a water catchment system. - Partner with a neighboring rancher on a grasslands project.

Check out our website and Facebook page for even more exciting pictures and videos!. If you would like to be a part of our email list to receive regular updates on the projects and volunteer opportunities, please subscribe!

Once again, we would like to thank you for your donation, the entire SkyHarvest team is incredibly grateful. Feel free to reach out anytime.

Thank you for caring about this beautiful and fragile ecosystem.Joshua Diaz, Donor Relationsjosh@skyharvest.org

As of April 2022, the Demonstration Garden for Bear Springs Reforestation project has 30 trees planted of 9 different species..

One of the purposes of the demonstration garden is to plant different species to see which trees are most resilient in this challenging environment. Using that data, we con plant the strongest species to reach our overall target goal of 4500 trees planted from seed.
