A future where restored landscapes
sustain thriving communities and ecosystems
through resilience and shared stewardship
LAND ACKNOWLEDGMENT
We acknowledge that we are on ancestral lands of the Apache people. We bow to their elder, past and present, the stewards of this vast area for countless generations before its total seizure made by more recent settlers in the mid-1800s. SkyHarvest acknowledges the nomadic Apache, drawn here through the seasons by abundant food, healing herbs and rare desert waters that still flow. We acknowledge the pain etched into this soil, the harm, the exile and unkept promises, and the absence of friendship owed to those who once called this place home. We dedicate these words to healing: to seeing equal access to the land and fairly-shared resources, to friendship, abundance, good health and long lives, to happiness and freedom from suffering, for all beings, everywhere. (*)
(*) This acknowledgment statement was created in consultation with indigenous families who have lived here continuously for generations. We thank Manny and Rose Medina of the Chiricahua Apache, Cranston Hoffman, Marlowe Cassadore and Tia Early of the San Carlos Apache, and Kevin and Lulu Yuzos of the Mescalero Apache for their contributions.
